Primeur voor Chengdu International Circuit

Circuit Park Zandvoort vormt het strijdtoneel voor de eerste race van het vierde A1 Grand Prix-seizoen, daarna verhuist het circus naar China. De tweede wedstrijd vindt namelijk plaats op het Chengdu International Circuit. Het is voor het eerst dat die baan op de A1 Grand Prix-kalender prijkt. De opbrengsten van het evenement gaan naar een fonds voor de getroffenen van de aardbeving in Sichuan.

De races op het circuit Chengdu zijn op 9 november. Dat was oorspronkelijk de datum voor de wedstrijden in Indonesië. Dat land heeft echter ingestemd met een andere datum, namelijk 8 februari 2009. A1 Grand Prix-baas Tony Teixeira: Zulke veranderingen vereisen veel medewerking en onze dank gaat uit naar Indonesische overheid en de Indonesische autosportbond voor het instemmen met een andere datum voor hun evenement.

Liu Yu, seatholder van Team China: Het is een grote eer dat China de A1 Grand Prix komend seizoen weer mag verwelkomen, zeker met de nieuwe autos van Ferrari. De ernst van de aardbeving in de provincie Sichuan was een schok voor iedereen over de hele wereld. A1 Grand Prix en Team China grijpen deze mogelijkheid aan om onze steun te betuigen aan de slachtoffers van deze ramp. Ik weet zeker dat de fans in Chengdu gaan aantonen dat ze doorgaan met hun leven en de A1 Grand Prix een warm welkom heten.
