Maleisië wint sprintrace, Bleekemolen vierde

Nederland en Jeroen Bleekemolen zijn er niet in geslaagd de pole position om te zetten in een overwinning. In slechte weersomstandigheden overwint Maleisië, voor Nieuw-Zeeland en Frankrijk. Nederland eindigt nog als vierde.

De race gaat van start in ongelooflijk natte weersomstandigheden achter de safety car. De race wordt officieel gestart in de derde ronde. Het is de wagen van Ierland die in de beginfase een beuk krijgt van Monaco. Het betekent het einde van de race voor beide coureurs.

Libanons Daniel Morad gaat in de fout bij de Tarzanbocht en kan maar net Charlie Kimball van USA ontwijken. Korea gaat in de fout in dezelfde bocht en raakt Australie's John Martin. Ondertussen krijgt Bleekemolen het moeilijker aan de leiding. Earl Bamber van Nieuw-Zeeland zit bij hem in de versnellingsbak. In de zevende ronde gaat Bamber voor de leiding in de Audi S. Bleekemolen probeert Bamber van zich af te houden en gaat door het grind waardoor hij de leiding verliest.

Maleisie en Fairuz Fauzy is ondertussen hard op weg naar voren. In een paar ronden tijd passeert hij Zwitserland en Nederland en ligt dan tweede. Zwitserland gaat wijd en verleent vrije doorgang voor Frankrijk.

Vooraan het veld is een heftige strijd gaande voor de leiding. Maleisië passeert Nieuw Zeeland en zal gaandeweg een voorsprong opbouwen, die aan de finish zo'n 3,5 seconde zal bedragen. We zitten in de elfde ronde als Ho-Pin Tung de fout in gaat. Hij ligt vijfde als hij uit de wedstrijd spint. Ondertussen staat Nederland onder hevige druk van Zwitserland voor de vierde plek, maar er komt hulp van boven. Wegens de slechte weersomstandigheden wordt de race afgevlagd en is Maleisië de winnaar voor Nieuw Zeeland en Frankrijk. Nederland behoudt de vierde plek voor Zwitserland.
