Duitsland maakt begin 2009 rentree

Voormalig A1GP-kampioen Duitsland keert begin 2009 terug in het kampioenschap van de A1 Grand Prix. Dit zal gebeuren tijdens het Nieuw-Zeelandse evenement in Taupo op 25 januari aanstaande. Seatholder Willi Weber heeft het team verlaten en wordt vervangen door Rolf Beisswanger, die Michael Ammermueller en voormalig Jaguar-testrijder Andre Lotterer als coureurs heeft aangesteld.

Beisswanger, voorheen actief als manager in Formule 1, Indy Car en DTM, vertelt: "Ik vindt het fantastisch dat we terugkeren. Het team is al eens kampioen geweest, maar we onderschatten de concurrentie niet. We gaan de rest van het seizoen gebruiken om de nieuwe auto te leren kennen en om te wennen aan onze partners en sponsoren. We willen in Taupo goed voorbereid aan de start staan."

A1GP-baas Pete da Silva: "We willen Willi Weber bedanken voor zijn inzet gedurende de eerste drie seizoenen. Zijn coureurs hebben niet in de laatste plaats bijgedragen aan het winnen van het kampioenschap. We hopen dat Duitsland voort kan borduren op deze successen."
