Team Nieuw-Zeeland kiest voor Van der Drift voor Taupo

Het A1 Grand Prix-seizoen gaat over ruim twee weken verder met races op het circuit van Taupo. Team Nieuw-Zeeland heeft voor het thuisevenement gekozen voor Chris van der Drift als coureur. De Formula Master-kampioen van 2008 kreeg de voorkeur boven teamgenoten Earl Bamber en Johnny Reid.

In een verklaring legt de renstal uit waarom: Johnny is een bewezen winnaar, maar door de beperkte trainingssessies zou hij binnen de kortste keren aan de nieuwe Ferrari-auto moeten wennen. Zowel Chris als het team zijn van mening dat hij zich op Taupo zal herstellen van het teleurstellende weekend in Chengdu.

Van der Drift: Dit is een belangrijk evenement voor Team Nieuw-Zeeland. Aangezien ik in mijn jeugd niet veel in Nieuw-Zeeland heb gereden, verheug ik me enorm op de gelegenheid om met de Black Beauty over Taupo te scheuren. Ik voel geen extra druk, benader deze races als normale races en laat niks in de weg komen van een goede prestatie.
