Organisatie schrapt race op stratencircuit Jakarta

De organisatie van de A1 Grand Prix heeft de geplande stratenrace in Jakarta van de kalender geschrapt. Het door Hermann Tilke ontworpen Lippo Village-circuit in Indonesië zal niet op tijd klaar zijn, waardoor een officiële FIA-vergunning niet afgegeven kan worden.

A1GP-baas Pete da Silva: "Het is extreem teleurstellend en niet het nieuws dat we allemaal graag hadden meegemaakt. Uit veiligheidsoverwegingen kan de FIA geen vergunning afgeven voor een circuit dat nog niet gereed is voor het geplande evenement over drie weken. Er zit helaas niets anders op dan het evenement te schrappen."

A1 Grand Prix denkt er vooralsnog niet over de race later in het jaar te verrijden. Wel is het mogelijk dat het circuit terugkeert op de kalender van volgend seizoen. De eerstvolgende race na Taupo dit weekeinde, zal de race in het Zuid-Afrikaanse Gauteng zijn in het weekend van 20 februari aanstaande.
