Bleekemolen domineert sprintrace

Jeroen Bleekemolen heeft in Zuid-Afrika de sprintrace op zijn naam geschreven. Het was de eerste zege voor Team Nederland in 45 A1GP-races. De Nederlander, die vanaf pole position van start ging, sloeg bij de start meteen al een gat op zijn achtervolgers. Daarna kwam team Nederland niet meer in de problemen en reed gemakkelijk naar de overwinning toe.

Binnen enkele ronden had Bleekemolen al een gat van bijna vijf seconden, dat ruim voldoende was om bij de pitstop de leiding te behouden. Neel Jani van team Zwitserland verloor bij de pitstop zijn tweede plaats aan Felipe Albuquerque van team Portugal.

De sprintrace kende verder één incident. De Braziliaan Felipe Guimaraes en de Brit Danny Watts kwamen met elkaar in aanraking waardoor Watts zich de enige uitvaller van de race mocht noemen.

Nederland wint uiteindelijk met een voorsprong van 4.407 seconden op nummer twee Portugal. Zwitserland pakt de derde plek voor Ierland, Monaco, India, Zuid-Afrika en Nieuw-Zeeland.
