Ronde in Mexico City afgelast vanwege varkensgriep

A1 Grand Prix-baas Tony Teixeira sprak gisteren nog over geen overhaaste beslissingen aangaande het evenement in Mexico City, vandaag is de seizoensafsluiter definitief geschrapt. De oorzaak daarvoor is de uitbraak van varkensgriep. Komend weekend vinden op het circuit van Brands Hatch de laatste races van dit seizoen plaats.

Teixeira: Zeggen dat we teleurgesteld zijn door dit noodzakelijke besluit zou een understatement zijn. Sinds de gezondheidsproblemen vorige week aan het licht kwamen hebben we de situatie nauwlettend gevolgd. Het werd snel duidelijk dat dit geen geïsoleerd gezondheidsrisico betrof. En toen de Wereldgezondheidsorganisatie waarschuwde voor een grieppandemie hebben wij de knoop doorgehakt. Onze voornaamste zorg gaat uit naar de gezondheid van iedereen in de A1 Grand Prix-wereld en de toeschouwers.

De titelstrijd wordt dus al komend weekend beslist. Drie teams maken nog kans op de titel. Team Zwitserland leidt met 88 punten, Team Ierland staat tweede met 86 punten en Team Portugal volgt met 82 punten. Team Nederland stevent af op de vierde positie, de renstal heeft een achterstand van zestien punten op Team Portugal en een voorsprong van twintig punten op Team Frankrijk.
