A1GP: Zuid-Afrika wint sprintrace, Bleekemolen 9

Zuid Afrika heeft de sprintrace van de A1 Grand Prix van Zandvoort gewonnen. De Zuid-Afrikaan Zaugg die vanaf pole position startte bleef na de start aan de leiding en gaf deze niet meer uit handen.

De start ging vrijwel vlekkeloos. Waar velen verwacht hadden dat er diverse aanrijdingen zouden komen in de Tarzan-bocht en de daarop volgende bochten gebeurde dit enkel alleen bij Italie. Italie werd van de baan getikt in de Tarzan-bocht en hierdoor was hun race over.

In de beginronden vormde zich een groepje vooraan het veld van die streden om de leiding. Toen de helft van de sprintrace gereden was kwam Zaugg voor zijn land echter op stoom en reed dominant weg. Iets achter de top 4 ontstond ook een interessante groep waar onder andere Jeroen Bleekemolen deel van uitmaakte.

Bleekemolen zat goed dicht op Canada maar moest af en toe uitkijken dat Zwitserland hem niet van de baan reed aangezien coureur Buemi soms voor spannende momenten zorgde.

Indonesie en Singapore kregen ook een aanvaring in de Tarzan-bocht waarna Singapore de race moest stoppen en Mikola voor Indonesie zijn team in de pits kort moest opzoeken.

Opvallend was dat de race weinig incidenten kenden buiten de eerder genoemde. Zaugg reed erg volwassen naar de overwinning, Mexico werd tweede en Frankrijk deed opnieuw mee voor de prijzen en finishte op de derde plaats.
