Vietoris volgend seizoen vaste coureur van Duitsland

Christian Vietoris mag volgend seizoen de A1 Grand Prix-titel voor het team van Duitsland verdedigen. De pas 18-jarige coureur reed dit seizoen al tijdens de vrije trainingen voor rookies en nam één weekend het stuur over van vaste coureur Nico Hulkenberg, die Formule 3-verplichtingen had. Vietoris viel in Mexico in de sprintrace uit na een ongeluk bij e start en scoorde in de hoofdrace twee punten door negende te worden.

Seatholder van Team Duitsland Willi Weber, tevens de manager van Vietoris en Hulkenberg, legt uit: Het is de bedoeling dat Christian volgend jaar de rol op zich neemt die Nico dit jaar vertolkt heeft. Wij hebben voor dit seizoen de grootste talenten van Duitsland aangetrokken en die hebben voor ons de titel in de wacht gesleept. Daar ben ik erg trots op, zeker omdat ik vind dat de A1 Grand Prix een prima klasse is voor jonge coureurs. De titel is voor ons een bevestiging om op deze ingeslagen weg door te gaan.

Het huidige A1GP-seizoen kent nog één raceweekend. Op 29 april is op het circuit van Brands Hatch de afsluiting van het seizoen. Duitsland is dus al kampioen, Team Nederland staat op dit moment zesde in het kampioenschap, één puntje achter Team Maleisië.
