Robbie Kerr schrijft geschiedenis in sprintrace

Robbie Kerr heeft voor Engeland geschiedenis geschreven door de sprintrace op zijn naam te schrijven. Het is voor het eerst dat een thuisland een wedstrijd weet te winnen.

Kerr zorgde gisteren al voor een klein feestje door de pole position voor zich op te eisen na een spannend gevecht met Duitsland, Frankrijk en Italië. De Engelsman profiteert optimaal van de rollende start en pakt de leiding, om die tot aan de finish niet meer af te staan. Fransman Loic Duval pakt al vroeg in de race de derde plaats, maar moet deze halverwege de race afstaan aan Toccacelo van Italië.

Buiten het podium slaagt Alex Yoong van Maleisië erin om de snellere autos van Nederland en India achter zich te houden. Achter dit groepje rijdt het tweetal Zuid-Afrika en Zwitserland. Sebastian Buemi doet een aanval bij Adrian Zaugg waarbij beide autos in het grind belanden.

Jeroen Bleekemolen startte goed vanaf een achtste startpositie maar weet niet voorbij te komen aan Alex Yoong. De Nederlander pakt zodoende de zesde plaats aan de finish.
