Duitsland verstoort Brits feestje

Nico Hulkenberg heeft voor team Duitsland de hoofdrace in Brands Hatch op zijn naam geschreven. Hij verstoorde hiermee het feestje van de Engelsen, die Robbie Kerr als tweede over de streep zagen komen.

Hulkenberg pakte het voordeel direct bij de start toen hij Kerr voorbij streefde. Vervolgens moest de jonge Duitser een complete ronde aanvallen van de Brit weerstaan. Bij de pitstop profiteert Kerr van een lege baan als Duitsland eerder naar binnen moet, maar hij komt er pal achter weer de baan op. Halverwege de race doet Kerr nog een goede poging, maar het is niet genoeg om Hulkenberg voorgoed te passeren.

Bij de start is het overigens meteen al over voor Australië, Zuid-Afrika en Tsjechië. Enrico Toccacelo van Italië pakt de derde plaats al vroeg in de race maar moet die de hele race verdedigen tegen een ontketende Kartikeyan van India.

Jeroen Bleekemolen eindigt op achterstand als vijfde, vlak voor Amerikaan Jonathan Summerton. Nieuw-Zeeland behoudt in de eindstand de tweede plek achter Duitsland, ondanks de late aanval van Groot-Brittannië.
