Bleekemolen en Luyendijk Junior vormen Team Nederland

Jeroen Bleekemolen en Arie Luyendijk Junior verdedigen komend A1GP-seizoen de kleuren van Team Nederland. Voor de eerstgenoemde wordt het alweer zijn derde seizoen in dienst van het team teambaas Jan Lammers en hij begint aan zijn tweede seizoen als vaste racecoureur. Luyendijk Jr., zoon van tweevoudig Indy 500-winnaar Arie Luyendijk, wordt reservecoureur en mag de rookie tests voor zijn rekening nemen.

Teambaas Jan Lammers wil na de vijfde plek van vorig jaar nu voor de titel gaan. Het is altijd moeilijk om een selectie te maken. Er zijn veel goede Nederlandse coureurs, maar de meeste moet je teleurstellen. De eerste stoel was eenvoudig, want Jeroen heeft vorig jaar Nederland goed vertegenwoordigd en verdient het om komend seizoen een aanval op de troon te doen.

Het rookie-zitje was lastig: Renger van der Zande, Yelmer Buurman en nog een aantal anderen waren serieuze kandidaten, maar zij zijn eigenlijk al te ver om genoegen te nemen met alleen de vrijdagstoel en nog net niet ver genoeg om de hoofdstoel optimaal te kunnen gebruiken. Arie Jr. daarentegen kan de rookie-positie perfect gebruiken om zijn carrière een nieuw impuls te geven, net zoals dat met Jeroen is gelukt. Los van alles is het natuurlijk een droomscenario dat ik indirect ook weer veel te maken krijg met Arie Sr. en Michael Bleekemolen. Jong talent omringd door een wereld van kennis en ervaring; een recept voor topresultaten, aldus de oud Formule 1-coureur.

Bleekemolen kan niet wachten op de seizoensstart, op 30 september op het circuit van Zandvoort. Ik vind het super! Het is een eer voor je land te mogen uitkomen en ik ben blij dat Jan na een seizoen samenwerking weer graag met mij door wil. Het team laat zo zien dat ze vertrouwen in mij hebben en dat geeft een goed gevoel. Ik heb vorig jaar samen met het team heel veel geleerd en daar moeten we nu ons voordeel mee doen. In vorig seizoen hebben we gewonnen, maar ook punten laten liggen. Vorig jaar heb ik niet kunnen testen en was het lang geleden dat ik met formule-autos had gereden.

Nu kunnen we ons op de goede manier voorbereiden en kunnen we sterker van start gaan. We gaan nog vier dagen testen, waar ik erg naar uitkijk. In een raceweekend is de tijd beperkt en kun je geen grote stappen maken. Nu kunnen we meer proberen en zo een goede basis leggen. Het wordt een mooi seizoen en de openingsrace in Zandvoort wordt een groot spektakel. Met een geheel oranje publiek achter je heb je echt extra motivatie.
