Silverstone dag 1: Zuid-Afrika snelst, Nederland negende

Het team van Zuid-Afrika heeft de eerste officiele testdag voor het derde A1 Grand Prix-seizoen als snelste afgesloten. Adrian Zaugg kreeg voor de laatste vijf minuten nieuwe banden gemonteerd en brak het testrecord op de verkorte versie van Silverstone. Nicolas Lapierre zette Frankrijk op een tweede plek, gevolgd door Oliver Jarvis voor team Groot-Brittannië.

Team Nederland eindigde de eerste dag als negende. Jeroen Bleekemolen mocht de meeste kilometers maken en reed de zesde tijd in de middagsessie. Bovendien werd hij in een poging om zijn tijd te verbeteren gehinderd door een rode vlag. Arie Luyendijk Junior kwam ook in actie, maar kon de tijd van zijn meer ervaren teamgenoot niet verbeteren.

Toch was er tevredenheid bij de zoon van tweevoudig Indy 500-winnaar Arie Luyendijk. Ik rijd hier niet zo veel maar het is erg leuk, iedere ronde ging ik sneller. Mijn snelste ronde was een 1:14.1, maar dat was op banden die de hele ochtend al gereden hadden. Met nieuwe banden moet je hier ongeveer anderhalve tot twee seconde sneller kunnen zijn, maar ik zit dus nog wel ruim een seconde van de snelste tijd af. Ik moest duidelijk nog wennen aan het paddle-shift systeem en de grip en het vermogen van de auto.
