Monger eindigt bij terugkeer meteen op het podium

Bij zijn eerste terugkeer op Donington Park sinds zijn crash van bijna anderhalf jaar geleden, waar hij beide benen gedeeltelijk kwijtraakte, heeft Billy Monger meteen een podium gepakt. Carlin heeft voor speciaal voor Monger een auto gemaakt, waarbij een knopje op het stuur zit om gas te geven. Zijn verrichtingen gedurende het weekend hebben de Brit vertrouwen gegeven.

In de eerste race op zaterdag mocht Monger al vanaf poleposition starten en werd uiteindelijk vierde. De tweede race ging minder en hierin eindigde hij dan ook als vijftiende. In de derde race wist hij zijn poleposition wel om te zetten in een podiumplek. Hij werd derde, nadat hij een fout maakte in de Fogarty Chicane.

"Het is geweldig om op het podium te staan. Dit weekend had ik niets anders in mijn gedachten dan zo snel rijden als ik kan en dat heb ik bewezen door mijn twee poles en de snelheid die ik heb laten zien tijdens het testen en in dit weekend. Eerder in het seizoen was mijn mentaliteit iets minder, aangezien ik geen idee had wat mijn doel was. Dus dit podium is een geweldige prestatie."

    Dit is net zo verdacht als Mick Schumacher.
    “Ze” wilden gewoon dat hij op het podium zou komen.
    Allemaal doorgestoken kaart.

    Knap werk. Respect. Na een jaar zou ik nog zuur reagerend op het internet zitten maar deze jongen rijdt gewoon weer verder. Misschien nog wel beter dan eerst.

    dat een zeker rode f1 auto met een duitser achter het stuur vele overwinningen geboekt heeft in het verleden door vals te spelen is geen garantie dat dat nog zo is .

    en respect is zeker op zijn plek deze jongen man verdiend dat zo om gaan met het gebeurde en zo sterk zijn daar gaan we nog heel veel van horen

    even een technische vraag, hoe werkt dat gas geven dan? Ik neem aan dat een auto met of 100% throttle of 0% throttle niet te besturen is

      Moet je maar eens kijken hoe ze dat bij een invalidenauto doen. Zal dan wel een soort hendel aan het stuur zijn. Denk aan een knijprem op de motor, hoe harder je knijpt, hoe meer gas je geeft. Kun je in principe net zo goed bedienen als een voetpedaal, hoewel een scherpe bocht misschien wel wat lastiger zal zijn.

      Ik rijd af en toe mee met iemand die zo moet rijden omdat die weinig beenfunctie heeft. Die gast rijdt erg pittig maar ik voel me er niet onveiliger door.

      Er zijn ook karts met handgas. Probeer er eens een, kun je het zelf ervaren.

      Trouwens, de landbouwtrekkers waar ik op heb gereden hadden ook handgas. Maar die manier lijkt me verdomd onhandig in een raceauto.

      Een racer als Monger is natuurlijk ideaal voor de ontwikkeling van auto's voor mensen met beperkte of geen beenfunctie.

      HEMEX... Billy rijdt met kunstmatige voeten. zijn bovenbenen doen eigenlijk al het werk nu aangezien je als mens geen controle hebt op plastic/metalen constructies.

      de pedalen zijn op deze beweging gepositioneerd zodat het voor Billy gewoon voelt als een normaal gaspedaal, daar waar een normaal persoon geen bal zou begrijpen hoe het pedaal lekker werkt.

      Dit staat in de tekst hierboven. Zou kunnen hoor, dat het anders is. Techniek staat voor niks. Maar dan is het wel erg vreemd 'vertaald'.
