Servia vervangt Gommendy bij PKV Racing

Oriol Servia hoeft de komende Champ Car-race in Surfers Paradise toch niet aan de zijlijn toe te kijken. De Spanjaard reed het hele seizoen voor Forsythe, maar omdat de organisatie contractueel verplicht is om met twee Mexicaanse coureurs naar de race in Mexico te gaan moest hij vertrekken. David Martinez nam zijn plek in als teamgenoot van Paul Tracy.

Servia rijdt komend weekend toch en wel voor PKV Racing, nota bene in handen van onder andere Champ Car-baas Kevin Kalkhoven. Servia: Ik ben zeer opgewonden en dankbaar voor deze kans om mijn hoge positie in het kampioenschap te verdedigen. Ik ken het team goed en ik ga werken met dezelfde engineer als vorig jaar. Het hele jaar doe ik op de stratencircuits al mee om de zege en ik weet zeker dat het op Surfers Paradise niet anders zal zijn.

De komst van Servia gaat ten koste van Tristan Gommendy (foto), waar het team nog wel van hoopt dat hij bij de laatste race weer zal rijden. PKV Racing-manager Mark Johnson: Tristan heeft jammer genoeg een onafgeronde zaak waardoor hij in Australië niet mee kan doen. Hij probeert die kwestie succesvol af te maken en dan kan hij in Mexico City weer voor het team aan de slag.
