Autosport nomineert Doornbos voor Rookie of the Year-award

Het toonaangevende Engelse magazine Autosport heeft Robert Doornbos genomineerd voor de Award van Rookie of the Year 2007. De Nederlander maakt een uiterst succesvol eerste jaar door in de Amerikaanse Champ Car. Doornbos behaalde al twee overwinningen, staat derde in het kampioenschap en is al de beste debutant in de Amerikaanse raceklasse.

Doornbos maakt nu dus kans op een extra prijs. De Minardi Team USA-coureur behoort tot een rijtje van tien genomineerden. Heikki Kovalainen, Lewis Hamilton, Juan Pablo Montoya, Kazuki Nakajima, Bruno Senna, Sebastian Vettel, Adrian Sutil, Graham Rahal en Paul di Resta zijn de andere negen kandidaten.

Via de site autosport.com kan een ieder zijn stem uitbrengen. Het wordt voor Doornbos moeilijk om van publiekslieveling en Formule 1-held Hamilton te winnen, maar Dan Wheldon en AJ Allmendinger hebben in het verleden bewezen dat het ook voor een niet Formule 1-coureur mogelijk is om de award in de wacht te slepen. De winnaar wordt op 2 december bekend gemaakt.
