Bourdais: "Newman/Haas/Lanigan zal ook winnen zonder mij"

Sebastien Bourdais is er van overtuigd dat het team van Newman/Haas/Lanigan ook na zijn vertrek een topteam in de Champ Car zal blijven. De viervoudig kampioen in de Amerikaanse raceklasse stapt aan het einde van het seizoen over naar Scuderia Toro Rosso om volgend jaar te debuteren in de Formule 1. Bourdais: Niemand is onvervangbaar, Newman/Haas/Lanigan zal ook zonder mij winnen.

De Fransman vertelt: Als je terugkijkt naar mijn periode in de Champ Car is dat met vier titels een groot succes geweest. Maar dat had ik niet gekund zonder het team. Het team blijft ook zonder Sebastien Bourdais bestaan. Carl Haas heeft een oog voor talent en zal een geschikte vervanger voor mij vinden. Ik weet zeker dat ze iemand zullen vinden die de goede lijn van de laatste jaren zal doortrekken en ik gun het team het allerbeste bij dit nieuwe avontuur.

Als mogelijke vervanger van Bourdais wordt Justin Wilson veelvuldig genoemd. Het team van de winnaar van de race op Assen houdt aan het einde van dit jaar op te bestaan en Wilson laat al jaren goede prestaties zien met minder middelen. Maar ook de naam van Robert Doornbos, Rookie of the Year, is gevallen. De Nederlander won al twee races, maar kijkt ook nog steeds met een schuin oog naar de Formule 1. Doornbos zou in beeld zijn bij Williams.
