Doornbos wil blijven racen in Champ Car in 2008

Robert Doornbos kende een goed debuutseizoen in de Champ Car dit jaar. Vanwege het goede seizoen en het plezier in het racen wil Doornbos graag volgend jaar in de Champ Car actief blijven, zo vertelde de Nederlander aan F1Today.nl.

In de paddock van Barcelona was tijdens de Formule 1-test ook zijn nieuwe manager Christian Geistdörfer aanwezig. Geistdörfer is duidelijk over 2008: Ons eerste en belangrijkste doel is om te blijven racen in de Champ Car in 2008. Robert heeft erg veel plezier in het racen en heeft het prima naar zijn zin in Amerika. We moeten nu zorgen om een goed stoeltje te bemachtigen voor 2008, zoals we ook voor 2007 hebben gedaan.

Veel fans waren dit jaar niet blij met de tv-kanalen waar Champ Car werd uitgezonden. SBS6 bracht de race een week later re-live op de buis, terwijl EuroSport 2 het live uitzond maar dit alleen te zien is voor kijkers met een digitaal extra pakket.

Geistdörfer is er zeker van dat dit in 2008 opgelost zal zijn: De organisatie van Champ Car werkt hard om een betere overeenkomst van de grond te krijgen, ik ben er ook zeker van dat dit gaat lukken. Het afgelopen jaar was dat niet goed geregeld door Bart Rietbergen. Die man is niet goed bezig. Hij heeft veel fouten gemaakt, maar nu Rietbergen vrijwel geen rol meer speelt in het geheel en de organisatie van Champ Car alles zelf regelt zal er ook wel een goede overeenkomst komen zodat de races live op een openbaar tv-kanaal te zien zullen zijn.

Naast het racen in de Champ Car blijft natuurlijk ook de Formule 1 een optie, al zullen eerst prestaties in Amerika neergezet moeten worden: We moeten een goed stoeltje voor 2008 in de Champ Car weten te bemachtigen waarna Robert zijn prestaties op de circuits moet tonen. Het is belangrijk dat er goede keuzes worden gemaakt zodat Robert het beste materiaal tot zijn beschikking heeft.

Een goed jaar in 2008 in Amerika zet uiteraard veel deuren voor je open. Het zal ook enigszins afhangen van hoe Bourdais bij Scuderia Toro Rosso presteert. Er wordt ongetwijfeld naar hem gekeken als viervoudig kampioen in de Champ Car, dus ligt er wel druk op zijn schouders. Als Bourdais een goed jaar kent bij Toro Rosso dan heeft dit positieve gevolgen voor de coureurs die het goed doen in de Champ Car en een overstap of terugkeer naar de Formule 1 willen maken.
