Christian Geistdörfer, manager van Robert Doornbos, onderhandelt met twee teams uit het nieuwe kampioenschap waarin de Champ Car en de Indy Racing League zijn opgegaan. Doornbos debuteerde vorig jaar in de Champ Car, won races, eindigde als derde in het kampioenschap en pakte de Rookie of the Year-titel. Toch moet hij door de fusie knokken voor een nieuw stoeltje.

Ik had veel liever gezien dat we nog een jaar in de Champ Car hadden kunnen rijden en daarin strijden om de titel, zegt Geistdörfer tegenover Motorsport-Total.com. Op die manier hadden coureurs en teams zich veel beter kunnen voorbereiden op de nieuwe situatie, die dan pas in 2009 zou gelden. Op het laatste moment twee series verenigen waarvan de kalenders al vastliggen vind ik niet heel gelukkig. Dat kan eigenlijk alleen tot chaos leiden.

We onderhandelen met twee teams uit de nieuwe klasse, aldus Geistdörfer, waaraan hij toevoegde dat hij hoopt binnen enkele dagen iets concreets te kunnen melden. Het is ook voor ons een volledig nieuwe situatie, maar af en toe gaat het leven zo en daar moet je gewoon mee om gaan.
