Contract Doornbos-Minardi zo goed als rond

Robert Doornbos hoopt dit weekend de onderhandelingen met Minardi voor een stoeltje in de Champ Car af te ronden, zo vertelde woordvoerder Jeroen Vermeeren aan F1Today.nl. De Rotterdammer heeft momenteel een drukke agenda; net terug uit Bahrein verblijft de Rotterdammer twee dagen in Nederland om zaterdag naar Amerika te vliegen.

Woordvoerder Jeroen Vermeeren: "In Amerika zal Robert zich toevoegen aan het Minardi Team USA, waar zondag enkele aanpassingen aan de zitpositie van Doornbos zullen plaatsvinden. Vervolgens gaat hij alle dagen deelnemen aan de Champ Car-test volgende week, samen met het Minardi Team USA. Na deze test zal Robert naar Australië vliegen om daar deel te nemen aan enkele activiteiten, waaronder het tennis toernooi van Mark Webber. In Australië zal Robert ook reservecoureur zijn van Red Bull Racing."

"Na de Grand Prix van Australië blijft Robert samen met het Red Bull-team in Azië en zal hij anderhalve week trainen, om daarna voor drie weken in Amerika te verblijven en te gaan racen in de Champ Car-serie. Een hele drukke agenda dus, waarbij Robert erg uitkijkt naar het moment dat hij weer op de startgrid zal staan om te kunnen racen", vertelde Jeroen Vermeeren.

"Robert kijkt erg uit naar het racen in de Champ Car en is enthousiast over de mogelijkheden die het Minardi-team hem kan bieden. Robert gaat graag de uitdaging aan om met het team van Paul Stoddart en Keith Wiggins te strijden in het kampioenschap. Paul Stoddart heeft uiteindelijk Robert overtuigd van de kwaliteiten en mogelijkheden van het team. Minardi heeft enkele goede engineers over genomen van de topteams van vorig jaar en een goede strateeg weten te contracteren. Samen met het budget dat het team heeft voor dit seizoen en met Robert in de wagen denken we allemaal dat dit een hele goede combinatie is."

De woordvoerder van de Rotterdammer vertelde tevens dat het éénjarig contract zal worden: "Ik kan vertellen dat het contract voor één jaar getekend zal worden. Dit is het beste voor Robert, ook vanwege de mogelijkheden die misschien in 2008 in de Formule 1 kunnen komen. Het contract is nog niet getekend, we hopen dit weekend de laatste puntjes in het contract op orde te kunnen maken."
