Halliday test voor Conquest

Matt Halliday begint morgen aan een tweedaagse test voor het Champ Car-team van Conquest. Bij het team van de Belgische teambaas Eric Bachelart is ruimte nadat Alexandre Premat eerder deze week een stoeltje bij Audi in de DTM verkoos boven een avontuur in Amerika.

Halliday is geen onbekende voor Conquest. De twee werkten al samen in 2001 in de Indy Light-serie en de coureur uit Nieuw-Zeeland testte in 2005 ook al eens voor het team. De 28-jarige Halliday reed de afgelopen twee seizoenen voor zijn land in de A1 Grand Prix.

De Nieuw-Zeelander is blij met de kans die Conquest hem geeft. Ik heb goede herinneringen aan mijn eerdere periode met het team. Ik kijk er dan ook naar uit om te gaan testen op Laguna Seca met de nieuwe auto. Hopelijk resulteert deze test in een racestoeltje voor komend seizoen.

Dat is ook de wens van teambaas Bachelart, maar hij benadrukt dat er nog niks getekend is. We gaan er wel alles aan doen om tot een overeenkomst te komen. Ik ken Matt goed en ik weet zeker dat hij het in zich heeft om het goed te doen in de Champ Car.

Vorig jaar reed Charles Zwolsman nog voor het team van Conquest. De toekomst van de Nederlander in de Champ Car is echter zeer onzeker, omdat hij het benodigde sponsorgeld niet bij elkaar krijgt.
