Conquest wil verder met Halliday

Als het aan teambaas Eric Bachelart ligt wordt Matt Halliday de enige coureur van zijn team Conquest dit jaar. De Nieuw-Zeelandse coureur testte twee dagen voor het team en reed twee keer in de top tien. Genoeg om de Belgische teambaas te overtuigen. Bachelart: Matt heeft absoluut laten zien dat hij hier thuis hoort.

Hij vervolgt: Hij deed het geweldig voor ons. Hij gaf goede feedback en paste zich snel aan de auto aan. Het was fijn om weer eens met hem samen te werken en ik hoop dat we er uit komen om hem hier de rest van het seizoen te houden. Want hij zou een geweldige toevoeging voor dit team zijn.

Halliday en Bachelart werkten al samen in 2001 in de Indy Lights. De Nieuw-Zeelander denkt zelf dat de test nog beter had gekund. Het was een goede test, maar we hebben veel tijd verloren met versnellingsbakproblemen en dat was frustrerend. Al met al ging het best lekker en konden we aan het einde van de test toch nog wat tijd vinden.

Het team van Conquest rijdt dit jaar maar met één auto. De reden hiervoor is dat mede-eigenaar Mike Lanigan zich bij topteam Newman/Haas heeft gevoegd. Bachelart twijfelde zelf lang of hij wel door moest gaan met zijn team, maar hij kreeg in januari toch de financiën bij elkaar.
