Bourdais foutloos, Doornbos weer op het podium!

Sebastien Bourdais heeft de Champ Car-race op het circuit van Houston gewonnen. De Fransman moest in de kwalificatie nog zijn meerdere erkennen in Will Power, maar na de eerste chicane lag de regerend kampioen al eerste en die positie gaf hij niet meer uit handen. Graham Rahal maakte het goede resultaat voor Newman/Haas/Lanigan compleet door tweede te worden. De pas 18-jarige teamgenoot van Bourdais is de jongste coureur ooit die op het podium is beland.

Achter het tweetal van Newman/Haas/Lanigan was er weer een glansrol voor Robert Doornbos. De Nederlander mocht net als na zijn debuutrace na afloop van de race het podium op. De coureur van Minardi Team USA werd in Las Vegas nog tweede, in Houston reed hij naar de derde plek. En dat terwijl de kwalificatie en de trainingen niet geweldig verliepen voor Doornbos. Hij kwalificeerde zich namelijk slechts als dertiende en startte voor het eerst achter teamgenoot Dan Clarke.

Doornbos na zijn tweede podiumplek van het seizoen: Dit is een welkome boost voor het team en mij na de tegenslagen tijdens de vorige race en onze eerste dagen hier in Houston. Ik moet complimenten geven aan het team. De wagen was vandaag top en zo ook onze strategie. Het voelt goed om weer op het podium te staan. Zeker omdat we nu een pauze hebben van enkele weken voor de volgende race. Het is nu zaak om deze goede vorm vast te houden.

De volgende race is op 10 juni op het circuit van Portland. Doornbos staat in het kampioenschap nu derde met 61 punten. Regerend kampioen Sebastien Bourdais heeft na twee zeges op een rij de leidende positie weer overgenomen van Will Power.
