Race in China nog steeds zonder datum

De Champ Car-race in China heeft nog steeds geen definitief plekje op de kalender. Het circuit van Zhuhai had op 20 mei al gastheer moeten zijn, maar door problemen met de racepromotor werd de race verschoven naar 28 oktober. De internationale autosportbond FIA heeft echter ingegrepen en laat de race op die datum niet doorgaan.

Dit heeft de autosportfederatie gedaan omdat de Formule 1 op 7 oktober een race in China heeft en men bang is dat de toeschouwersaantallen terug zullen lopen met een Champ Car-race in dezelfde maand. De Champ Car komt vlak voor de Formule 1 Grand Prix van België ook al naar Nederland en België. De FIA vindt het niet verstandig om een maand later de twee raceseries weer in dezelfde regio te laten rijden.

En dus is de datum voor de Champ Car-race in China nog niet bekend en zeker niet definitief. Het is zelfs nog maar zeer de vraag of de race op het circuit van Zhuhai wel door zal gaan. Als dat niet het geval is kan de Amerikaanse organisatie van de raceklasse een schadeclaim van minstens 15 miljoen dollar verwachten van racepromotor Sino Sports & Entertainment Inc.
