Doornbos verheugt zich op race in Portland

Na een pauze van zeven weken gaat het Champ Car-circus komend weekend weer verder. Het circuit van Portland is de gastheer van de vierde race van het seizoen. Minardi Team USA-coureur Robert Doornbos staat derde in de stand om het kampioenschap en scoorde al twee podiumplekken. De Nederlander mag dus positief zijn en voor de komende race is daar extra reden voor.

De race in Portland wordt namelijk de allereerste race in de Champ Car-geschiedenis waarin de coureurs uit stilstand van start gaan. Doornbos: Ik vind het geweldig dat ze gekozen hebben om de staande start te introduceren. De rollende start is ook wel leuk, maar dat was vooral in het begin even wennen. Maar in Houston ging het al een stuk beter en kon ik gelijk meerdere coureurs inhalen. Toch, ik ben opgegroeid met de staande start en voel me daar toch nog iets prettiger bij.

Ik kijk er naar uit om terug te keren naar Portland. Ik heb genoten van de stad en het circuit toen we daar vorige maand een test hadden. Ik hoop dat we onze sterke seizoensstart een passend vervolg kunnen geven. Weer een podiumplek voor Minardi Team USA zou heel mooi zijn.
