Doornbos snelste tijdens tweede kwalificatie

Robert Doornbos heeft gisteren in Portland zijn stuurmanskunsten weer laten zien door de snelste tijd te noteren in de tweede kwalificatie. Op een totaal verregende baan zette de Minardi Team USA coureur met een ronde van 1:11.629 vrij gemakkelijk de snelste tijd neer.

Doornbos verdedigde zijn tweede startplaats voor de vierde race van het seizoen gisteren met succes door keurig de pole position te pakken. De verraderlijke omstandigheden brachten Robert niet van zijn stuk, hij was direct op snelheid. Doornbos neemt morgen op de grid plaats naast polesitter Justin Wilson voor de eerste staande start in de historie van de Champ Car World Series.

Robert Doornbos: Het voelde eigenlijk of ik een beetje thuis was met al die regen, haha! Het was echt onwijs nat en glad op de baan. Toch had ik het goed naar mijn zin, dit zijn omstandigheden waar ik me goed bij voel. Het is supermotiverend voor zowel het team als mezelf om de snelste te zijn. Het is goed om vanaf de eerste rij te starten. Mocht het tijdens de race ook regenen, heb ik sowieso vrij zicht. Ik kijk uit naar morgen en zal alles op alles zetten om proberen te winnen. Na vandaag ben ik nog blijer met mijn keuze om naar deze serie over te stappen. We kijken met veel vertrouwen naar morgen!
