Bourdais nu milder voor Doornbos

Voor de tweede keer in een week waren Sebastien Bourdais en Robert Doornbos in een gevecht verwikkeld. Vorige week in Mont Tremblant won Doornbos het gevecht en won ook de race. Gisteren in Toronto tikte de Nederlander Bourdais uit de race. De Fransman viel uit, Doornbos werd nog zesde en leidt nu alleen het Champ Car-kampioenschap.

En waar Bourdais vorige week zeer kritisch was over de agressief verdedigende rijstijl van Doornbos, was hij nu een stuk milder voor de Minardi Team USA-coureur. Robert maakte een klein foutje, maar met grote gevolgen voor de race en het kampioenschap. Na de crash kon ik in zijn ogen zien dat hij er spijt van had en hij verontschuldigde zich na de race bij mij. Daarmee is het voor mij afgedaan.

De Fransman heeft geen idee wat er gebeurde. Ik zag helemaal niets. Opeens werd ik van achteren geraakt en dat was het einde van de race. Hij had er wel voordeel van, want hij kon zijn race vervolgen. Daardoor scoorde hij nog wat extra punten en neemt daardoor de leiding in het kampioenschap van mij over.

Doornbos over het ongeluk: Dit was een typisch raceongeluk. De omstandigheden waren zeer verraderlijk en het had iedereen kunnen gebeuren. Ik remde gewoon waar ik dat al de hele race deed, maar nu schoof ik door en tikte ik Sebastien in de rondte.
