Gommendy krijgt toestemming om te racen

Tristan Gommendy mag dit weekend gewoon van start gaan in de Champ Car-race op het stratencircuit van San Jose. De Fransman blesseerde zich vorige week bij een crash op het circuit van Edmonton aan zijn rug en moest zich voor die race laten vervangen door Mario Dominguez. Gommendy kreeg nu echter het groene licht van dokter Terry Trammell.

Daardoor hoeft zijn team PKV Racing geen vervanger te regelen voor San Jose. Teammanager Mark Johnson legt uit: Dokter Trammell heeft Tristan wel verteld dat hij er nog last van zal ondervinden, maar hij acht het verantwoord om hem dit weekend te laten racen. Dat is goed nieuws voor ons. Vorige week was de situatie nog een raadsel, maar we namen het zekere voor het onzekere. En als we terugkijken denk ik dat we de juiste beslissing namen om Tristan in Edmonton niet te laten rijden.

Dominguez moest bij de race op het vliegveld in de Canadese stad op het laatste moment in de auto stappen en viel in de race uit met een kapotte motor. Nu is Gommendy terug bij PKV Racing, maar zijn Mexicaanse vervanger van Edmonton doet nu ook weer mee. Dit keer moet Dominquez Ryan Dalziel bij Pacific Coasts Motorsport vervangen. Dalziel brak eerder deze week zijn sleutelbeen bij een val van zijn fiets.
