Teleurgestelde Doornbos: "Assen moest hoogtepunt worden"

Wat voor Robert Doornbos een hoogtepunt moest worden, werd vandaag op Assen een dieptepunt. De Nederlander verloor weer punten ten opzichte van de leider in het klassement en reed een uiterst teleurstellende race. Zijn laatste pitstop in de allerlaatste ronde betekende was de doodsteek voor de Nederlander, die Wilson zag winnen op het circuit in Drenthe.

De coureur voor Minardi Team USA: "We zouden naar Assen toewerken als hoogtepunt dit seizoen. Tot vorige week was de auto snel. Hier in Nederland is de auto gewoon niet snel genoeg. Op dit soort circuits komt de auto niet uit de verf."

De Nederlander bedankte nog wel de fans die in grote getalen richting het TT-circuit van Assen waren gekomen: "Bedankt voor de fans. Ik vind het jammer voor ze, helaas. Het enige lichtpuntje vandaag was de opkomst van alle fans voor mij."
