Mercedes bevestigt rentree van Pascal Wehrlein

Pascal Wehrlein keert officieel terug in de DTM. De DTM-kampioen van 2015 maakt na twee seizoenen Formule 1 zijn rentree in de toerwagenklasse. Mercedes heeft Wehrlein vastgelegd voor het laatste seizoen van het Duitse merk in de DTM.

Na het winnen van de titel in 2015 waagde Wehrlein de sprong naar de Formule 1. In 2016 kwam hij uit voor Manor en afgelopen seizoen reed hij in dienst van Sauber. Dat hij voor beide achterhoedeteams punten wist te scoren was niet genoeg om zijn verblijf in de koningsklasse van de autosport te verlengen.

Wehrlein rijdt in 2018 samen met Paul di Resta, Gary Paffett, Edoardo Mortara en Lucas Auer voor Mercedes in de DTM. Daar wordt in een later stadium nog een zesde naam aan toegevoegd.

      Eens. DTM is wel een flinke stap terug voor hem. Blijft jammer dat Williams voor het sponsorgeld van Sirotkin kiest, boven het bewezen talent van Wehrlein + korting op Mercedes motoren.

      Ik ga niet zeggen dat hij beter is dan Sirotkin , maar ik had wel graag dat Pascal bij Williams was ingestapt .

      Wordt lastig voor Pascal. Er is het één en ander veranderd in de DTM maar desalniettemin zal de buitenwacht de lat voor hem zeer hoog leggen.

    Meer dan gegund. Ik denk dat Mercedes hem net te licht vond om al naast Lewis te zetten en met Ocon hebben ze al iets achter de hand. Bovendien had Ocon al een zitje bij FI.
    Dat ze Pascal als derde rijder aanhouden en hem daarnaast een DTM zitje geven is toch wel het bewijs dat ze hem waarderen.
    Mocht hij de DTM domineren dan kan we misschien weer een F1 deur ergens open gaan.

      Na dit seizoen stopt Mercedes met DTM, dus zal hij sowieso ergens anders heen moeten.

      @Rimmer. Hoe weet jij dat hij ook nu hij DTM gaat doen evengoed nog derde rijder is want dat staat niet in dit bericht. Stond het ‘elders’ ergens?

      Ja zal in 2019 wel FE worden. Hij laat trouwens wel een baard van een meter staan @Schwantz. Mag dat in de FE?

    De Duitsers verliezen terrein als piloten in de F1 enkel nog vettel aan de kant en het wordt weer leuk. Hulk kan ik nog pramen.
