Juncadella completeert line-up van Mercedes

Daniel Juncadella keert terug in de DTM. De 26-jarige Spanjaard racet komend seizoen weer voor Mercedes in de toerwagenklasse. Juncadella was van 2013 tot en met 2016 een vaste waarde in de line-up van Mercedes in de DTM, maar vorig jaar moest hij genoegen nemen met een rol als reserverijder en optredens in de GT-racerij.

In 2018 maakt Juncadella dus weer onderdeel uit van het DTM-veld. "Het voelt geweldig om terug te keren in de DTM", begint de Spanjaard. "Na een jaar pauze ben ik gretig om weer te racen in deze geweldige klasse. Ik heb vorig jaar ervaring opgedaan in mijn hoedanigheid als reservecoureur en met mijn optredens in diverse GT-series. Ik heb wat recht te zetten in de DTM. Ik ben van mening dat mijn resultaten in mijn eerste periode geen goede weergave van mijn ware vaardigheden waren."

Ulrich Fritz, DTM-baas bij Mercedes: "Daniel kent het team als zijn broekzak en hij heeft in 2017 als reserve alle raceweekenden bijgewoond. Het zal hem dus niet veel tijd kosten om te wennen en zich aan te passen. Hij kent de auto en de teamleden uit het verleden en zal dus weinig moeite hebben om zich hier weer te nestelen. Ik ben er zeker van dat hij het team komend seizoen met zijn ervaring en snelheid goed van dienst kan zijn."

Met Juncadella is de line-up van Mercedes voor 2018 compleet. De Spanjaard voegt zich bij de eerder bevestigde Pascal Wehrlein, Lucas Auer, Edoardo Mortara, Paul di Resta en Gary Paffett.

  Precies en dan kan Wehrlein bijvoorbeeld over twee jaar in een Williams of misschien na Perez in de een FI.
