Robert Kubica test volgende week voor BMW tijdens rookietest

De kans lijkt steeds groter dat Robert Kubica zijn carrière vervolgt in de DTM. De enkelvoudig Grand Prix-winnaar zal komende week een DTM-bolide van BMW testen tijdens de rookietest op Jerez.

Dat nieuws werd donderdag door BMW bevestigd. Het Beierse automerk zal ook Racing Point-simulatorcoureur Nick Yelloly inzetten tijdens de test waaraan alleen coureurs zonder ervaring in de DTM aan mogen meedoen. Voor Kubica is de stap niet heel verrassend: na zijn aangekondigde vertrek uit de Formule 1 werd de Pool al in verband gebracht met BMW en de DTM en nu volgt er dus een eerste test.

"Ik wil BMW Motorsport bedanken voor de kans om op Jerez met de BMW M4 DTM te testen. Ik kijk bijzonder uit uit naar de test en het leren kennen van de auto in de DTM. Ik kan me goed een toekomst in de DTM voorstellen. Ik zoek naar een nieuwe uitdaging en dat is de klasse zeker. De serie heeft een sterk deelnemersveld en het niveau van het racen is extreem hoog. We moeten echter eerst afwachten hoe de test verloopt", vertelde Kubica.

Naar verwachting dubbelrol voor Kubica in 2020

Kubica keerde eerder in 2019 na acht seizoenen afwezigheid terug in de Formule 1 bij Williams. Hij leek het onmogelijke mogelijk te maken door terug te keren, nadat hij in 2011 zwaargewond raakte bij een crash in een rally, maar terug in de Formule 1 had Kubica het lastig. De Williams bleek verre van een wonderauto te zijn en Kubica legde het zelf consistent af tegen teamgenoot George Russell.

In september kondigde Kubica dan ook zijn vertrek bij Williams aan, terwijl hij duidelijk maakte naar opties te zoeken in andere klassen. De DTM lijkt nu dus een reële optie. Tevens zal Kubica naar verwachting verbonden blijven aan een Formule 1-team, waarbij hij vooral gelinkt wordt aan Haas F1. Sponsor PKN Orlen zou graag zichtbaar blijven in de koningsklasse van de autosport.

Ook in de dtm gaat Kubica niet slagen , autoracen met 1 hand/arm gaat namelijk niet.
