Ralf Schumacher hangt per direct zijn helm aan de wilgen

Ralf Schumacher heeft zijn actieve loopbaan met onmiddellijke ingang beëindigd. Het was de bedoeling dat de Duitser dit seizoen nog voor Mercedes in de DTM zou racen, maar de oud Formule 1-coureur geeft de voorkeur aan een positie in het management bij Mucke Motorsport.

De vacante plek bij Mercedes wordt opgevuld door Pascal Wehrlein. Ralf Schumacher startte namens Williams, Jordan en Toyota 180 Grands Prix in de Formule 1 en won zes maal. In de DTM was hij minder succesvol. In 52 races beklom hij slechts twee maal het podium.
