Renault haalt 15-jarige Hadrien David en stalt hem bij MP Motorsport

Renault heeft haar line-up voor de Renault Sport Academy rond. Maandag werd Oscar Piastri al aangekondigd als nieuwe aanwinst, vandaag is het de beurt aan Fransman Hadrien David.

David verdiende zijn plekje in het opleidingsprogramma van Renault door afgelopen jaar op 15-jarige leeftijd kampioen te worden in het Franse Formule 4-kampioenschap. In 2020 gaat de Fransman een stap hogerop: hij promoveert naar de Formule Renault Eurocup, waarin hij voor MP Motorsport zal uitkomen. In die klasse krijgt David gezelschap van Renault-junior Caio Collet, die uitkomt voor R-ace GP.

In totaal bestaat de Renault Sport Academy in 2020 uit zes coureurs. David en Piastri zijn de nieuwe namen, terwijl Collet, Max Fewtrell, Christian Lundgaard en Guanyu Zhou al langer lid zijn van het programma. Drie coureurs hebben het opleidingstraject na afloop van 2019 moeten verlaten: dat waren Victor Martins, Leonardo Lorandi en Ye Yifei. Gedurende het seizoen verloor de Renault Sport Academy Anthoine Hubert al door een dodelijk ongeval in de Formule 2.

Renault maakte meteen ook bekend welke coureurs in welke klasse gaan rijden. Zowel in de Formule 2, Formule 3 als Formule Renault Eurocup heeft men twee talenten. Zhou blijft in 2020 bij UNI-Virtuosi in de F2, terwijl Lundgaard vanuit de F3 de overstap maakt naar de F2. Hij blijft wel bij ART Grand Prix. Piastri debuteert in de Formule 3 bij Prema, terwijl Fewtrell naar Hitech GP verkast in die klasse. Collet en David rijden zoals gezegd dus Formule Renault.
