Armstrong pakt dominante eerste zege op Norisring

Marcus Armstrong heeft de eerste race van het Formule 3-weekend op de Norisring als dominante winnaar afgesloten. De Nieuw-Zeelander, afgelopen winter nog een van de concurrenten van Richard Verschoor in de Toyota Racing Series in Nieuw-Zeeland, leidde de race van start tot finish. Los van een crash bij de start leverde de eerste van drie races in Nürnberg weinig spektakel op.

In de eerste ronde ging het mis voor Sacha Fenestraz: Fenestraz werd over het voorwiel van Jonathan Aberdein gelanceerd. Fenestraz kon meteen uitstappen, het incident zorgde voor een Safety Car. Bij de herstart was Armstrong goed weg en sloeg hij een gat met de concurrentie. Armstrong's zege zou nooit meer in gevaar komen en zo mag de Nieuw-Zeelander voor de eerste keer plaatsnemen op de hoogste trede van het podium in het Europees Formule 3-kampioenschap.

Teamgenoot Ralf Aron werd tweede, het podium werd besloten door Johan Daruvala. Daniel Ticktum pakte een belangrijke vierde plaats, terwijl Mick Schumacher, Robert Schwartzman, Juri Vips, Marino Sato, Guanya Zhou en Alex Palou de overige punten mochten verdelen. De leider in het kampioenschap, Enaam Ahmed, kwam niet verder dan een veertiende plaats en zag zijn voorsprong in het kampioenschap flink kleiner worden.

Ahmed heeft nu nog acht punten voorsprong op Daniel Ticktum. Ralf Aron completeert de top drie in het kampioenschap. De tweede en derde race op de Norisring worden morgen verreden.
