Alonso doorstaat laatste controle en kan starten in Austin

Ferrari hoeft niet op zoek naar een tijdelijke vervanger voor Fernando Alonso. Bij medische tests is hij fit bevonden om dit weekend in Austin deel te nemen aan de Grand Prix van de Verenigde Staten. De Spanjaard doorstond de door de FIA verplichte controle in het medisch centrum op het Circuit of the Americas.

Alonso hield rugpijn over aan de Grand Prix van Abu Dhabi. Bij het verlaten van de pits kwam hij naast Jean-Eric Vergne de baan op. Vergne had Alonso niet gezien en drukte hem van de baan. De Ferrari-coureur stuiterde over de kerbs naast het circuit en daarbij werd een impact van 25G geregistreerd. Zijn rug heeft dus een zware klap te verduren gehad en het is geen wonder dat Alonso daar last van hield. De doktoren hebben echter alle lichten op groen gezet. Alonso koos er donderdag in Austin voor om alle media-activiteiten over te slaan en zijn rug rust te gunnen.
