Perez: "Ik heb veel geleerd, mijn tijd komt nog wel"

Een jaar geleden dacht Sergio Perez dat hij door zijn overstap naar Mclaren mee zou kunnen strijden om de wereldtitel. Hoe anders is de situatie anno nu: Perez racet voor Force India en zal zich dus opnieuw moeten bewijzen bij de topteams. Toch kijkt de Mexicaan niet met een slecht gevoel terug op zijn tijd bij het team van Mclaren.

"Het was een heel belangrijk leermoment in mijn carrière," aldus Perez tegenover de officiële Formule 1-website. "Ik heb nergens spijt van: Mclaren is een geweldig team en ik zal ze altijd blijven respecteren."

"Helaas verliep het seizoen door verschillende redenen niet zoals gehoopt en behaalden we geen enkel podium. Mijn situatie is veranderd nu, maar ik ben zeer opgewonden over komend seizoen. Ik vind niet dat ik nu weer terug in de wacht ben geplaatst. Ik ben van mening dat mijn tijd nog wel komt."

Het feit dat Force India afgelopen seizoen regelmatig goed uit de verf kwam stemt Perez gelukkig: "Het geeft me enorm veel vertrouwen voor komend seizoen. Ik weet zeker dat we samen met Force India over de winter goed werk kunnen leveren en dat we het seizoen goed kunnen beginnen. Het team deed dat vorig jaar ook en ze werken al een lange tijd aan de auto voor 2014. Dat is positief."

De teamgenoot van Perez bij Force India is de hooggewaardeerde Nico Hülkenberg. Perez hoopt te kunnen leren van de Duitser en verwacht samen met hem een sterk team te kunnen vormen: "Nico is een erg sterke en ervaren rijder. Daarnaast reed hij al eerder voor Force India. Ik hoop veel van hem te kunnen leren en kijk erg uit naar onze samenwerking. Ik weet zeker dat we een sterk en succesvol seizoen tegemoet gaan."

Komt wel goed met die jongen, ook al zal hij aan Hulk een zware dobber hebben. Ik verwacht sowieso dat FI dit seizoen in de subtop rijdt en dat beide coureurs voor podiumplekken in aanmerking zullen komen.

Daar horen we over een aantal jaar helemaal niets meer over. Is al lang gewogen en te licht bevonden. Daar moet Vijay alleen nog achter komen zo lijkt het.

Ik ben benieuwd. Heb het baasje nog steeds best hoog zitten. Zal geen Vettel of Alonso worden maar mocht graag zien hoe hij Button het leven zuur maakte. Stiekem denk ik nog steeds dat die een grote hand in het vertrek bij Mc Laren heeft gehad.
