Het is voor de rijders net als voor media en fans schier onmogelijk om uitspraken te doen over de verhoudingen voor komend seizoen in de Formule 1. De reglementen zijn ingrijpend gewijzigd en iedereen wacht met spanning op de eerste krachtmeting bij de test in Jerez, eind januari. Niet dat in testen alles duidelijk wordt, maar het is wel een eerste indicatie.

Williams-coureur Felipe Massa: "Er zijn zoveel onbekende factoren voor dit jaar, maar iedereen zit in hetzelfde schuitje. Pas wanneer we in de auto kruipen om het testseizoen aan te vangen zullen we ontdekken wat we nog moeten leren. Dingen als hoe gevoelig het gaspedaal is voor de grote hoeveelheid koppel en welke impact ERS heeft. Aerodynamisch hebben de wagens minder downforce, dus er hangen nog veel vraagtekens boven het komende seizoen."

Force India-rijder Nico Hulkenberg voegde toe: "Op dit moment weet niemand hoe dit jaar zal verlopen en hoe de bolides zullen zijn. We hebben veel vragen en nog geen antwoorden. Zelfs de eerste race zal nog niet het hele verhaal vertellen. Het is voor iedereen een unieke situatie, een uitdaging. Het biedt kansen om iets speciaals neer te zetten, maar je kan ook de plank flink mis slaan, dus we dienen onze zaakjes goed voor elkaar te hebben."
