McLaren-team heeft spijt van 'ongelukkige' actie van beide coureurs

McLaren noemt de acties van hun coureurs tijdens de Maleisische kwalificatie 'ongelukkig'. Zowel Heikki Kovalainen als Lewis Hamilton hebben een straf gekregen wegens het blokkeren van Nick Heidfeld en Fernando Alonso in hun snelle ronden.

Beide McLaren coureurs Kovalainen en Hamilton kregen na de kwalificatie een straf die ervoor zorgde dat ze vijf plaatsen moesten inleveren op de startopstelling. Dit vanwege het hinderen van Heidfeld en Alonso in het laatste deel van de kwalificatie, in de allerlaatste poging van beide coureurs om er nog iets beters van te maken.

McLaren accepteert de straf en geeft op die manier concurrent Ferrari een geweldige kans voor de race voor morgen. Massa en Raikkonen starten beide vanaf de eerste startrij. McLaren meldde gelijk nadat ze hun straf hadden gekregen dat het nooit de bedoeling is geweest om andere coureurs te hinderen.

McLaren CEO Martin Whitmarsh kwam met een reactie: Wij accepteren de straf die we hebben gekregen, maar ik wil wel heel duidelijk erbij vermelden dat het nooit onze bedoeling is geweest om andere coureurs te hinderen. Het was gewoon een ongelukkig incident. Niets meer en niets minder. We kijken nu uit naar de race van morgen, aldus Martin Whitmarsh.
