Nelson Piquet jr. gaat voor punten in Bahrein

Renault-coureur Nelson Piquet jr. is zijn Formule 1-carrière met twee bewogen races begonnen. In Australië debuteerde de Braziliaan zwak, maar hij kon op de bescherming van teambaas Flavio Briatore rekenen. En een week later deed in de hitte van Maleisië zijn drinksysteem het niet. Hij haalde wel de finish en in Bahrein is het tijd voor de volgende stap.

Piquet: Mijn doel is om punten te scoren in Bahrein. Dat wilde ik op Sepang al, maar toen kwam ik niet in de positie om daaraan te voldoen. Fernando Alonso heeft in twee races twee keer punten gescoord en nu wordt het tijd voor mij om dat voorbeeld te volgen. Ik denk dat we ons moeten richten op de zevende en achtste plek en we moeten klaar staan om van elke misstap van een topteam gebruik te maken.

Dat moet gebeuren op het circuit van Sakhir, waar Piquet jr. geen fan van is. Het circuit behoort absoluut niet tot mijn favorieten. Maar ik ken de baan wel en dat is een voordeel voor me. Ik kan gelijk aan de afstelling van de auto beginnen, ik hoef niet eerst het circuit te leren. Dat zorgt er voor dat ik het weekend met iets meer rust kan aanvangen.
