Fernando Alonso wil vooral genieten in verloren seizoen

Het team van Renault maakt dit jaar geen kans om zich te mengen in de strijd om de wereldtitels. Dat betekent automatisch ook geen derde kampioenschap voor coureur Fernando Alonso. De Spanjaard werd afgelopen winter met een goed contract teruggelokt naar het team waarmee hij zijn grootste successen vierde, maar het seizoen 2008 is al verloren.

Alonso wil dan maar het beste maken van de huidige jaargang. Ik ben nu veel kalmer. Ik heb niet de druk van het moeten presteren en hoef me geen zorgen te maken dat ik het kampioenschap verlies door een minder resultaat. Daardoor kan ik iets losser rijden. Minder druk betekent ook dat je meer risicos kan nemen, je hebt toch niets te verliezen.

In 2009 wil de Spanjaard echter wel weer een rol van betekenis spelen in de titelstrijd. Michael Schumacher verliet Benetton en moest bij Ferrari ook vier jaar wachten op zijn eerstvolgende titel. Dit wordt mijn tweede jaar zonder kampioenschap, en hopelijk komen er niet veel meer bij.
