Eerste punten smaken naar meer voor Piquet jr

Renault-coureur Nelson Piquet jr liet zich gisteren in de Grand Prix van Frankrijk eindelijk eens van zijn beste kant zien. De dit jaar debuterende Braziliaan had het in de voorgaande races moeilijk, maar op Magny-Cours toonde hij zijn ware snelheid. Hij eindigde als zevende en scoorde zodoende zijn eerste punten. Hij bleef zelfs teamgenoot Fernando Alonso voor.

En dat smaakt naar meer. Piquet jr: Hopelijk is dit een sneeuwbal die de rest van het seizoen alleen maar groter wordt. Ik heb me nooit onder druk gevoeld, ik wist dat vroeg of laat alles samen zou komen. Uiteraard moet het vanaf nu beter gaan dan in het eerste deel van het seizoen. Ik heb veel pech gehad, ik hoop dat het vanaf nu goed blijft gaan.

De Renault-coureur kende ook een opmerkelijk moment bij het uitkomen van de pitstraat, waarbij hij ingehaald werd door Heikki Kovalainen. Piquet jr legt uit wat er gebeurde: Ik moest de hele race pushen. Ik had niet veel verkeer voor me en het was leuk om de McLarens achter me te houden in het begin. Jammer genoeg gleed mijn hand na een pitstop op een knop waardoor de auto in neutraal schoot en verloor ik een plek.
