Alonso op Silverstone op zoek naar betere racesnelheid

Renault-coureur Fernando Alonso gaat komend weekend bij de Grand Prix van Groot-Brittannië op jacht naar een mooi resultaat. De tweevoudig wereldkampioen scoorde dit jaar pas tien punten, hoewel hij zich wel regelmatig op de eerste drie startrijen kwalificeert. De racesnelheid van de R28 laat echter te wensen over.

Alonso: Na de kwalificatie op Magny-Cours dacht ik dat we voor het eerst mee zouden kunnen doen voor het podium. Dus natuurlijk was ik teleurgesteld met mijn achtste plek. De race begon al slecht doordat ik bij de start een paar plekken verloor en daarna kon ik geen moment in de buurt komen van de snelheid die we in de kwalificatie hadden laten zien.

Ik ben wel positief, want we boeken duidelijk progressie. Vorige week hebben we drie dagen op Silverstone getest met Nelson Piquet jr achter het stuur. Dat zal ons zeker helpen, het biedt ons een goed beginpunt om de auto verder te verbeteren gedurende het weekend. In de vorige race scoorde ik een punt, wat tenminste nog iets is, maar ik ben vastberaden om het komend weekend beter te doen.
