Jerez dag 4: Kovalainen houdt eer voor McLaren hoog

Na drie dagen Red Bull-auto's bovenaan de tijdenlijst is het vandaag de beurt aan een McLaren. Heikki Kovalainen zet op de afsluitende testdag in Jerez de la Frontera de snelste weektijd neer. Red Bull is opnieuw niet ver weg. Sebastian Bourdais is tweede op vier tienden van de Fin.

Het is sowieso een goede week voor Red Bull, want ook David Coulthard is niet ver weg. De Schot rijdt de derde tijd op een seconde van Kovalainen. Kamui Kobayashi kende een mindere testdag voor Toyota. De Japanner veroorzaakt twee van de drie rode vlaggen en eindigt onderaan de tijdenlijst.

Bij McLaren werd er vandaag verder getest met de hoorntjes op de neus die BMW Sauber al langer gebruikt. De snelste tijd reed Kovalainen echter tijdens een run zonder deze vleugeltjes. McLaren is er dan ook nog niet uit of het de hoorntjes gaat gebruiken tijdens het Grand Prix-weekeinde in Hongarije. Felipe Massa nam vandaag het stuur over van teamgenoot Raikkonen en testte in de middag onder meer de inmiddels beruchte haaienvin-motorkap. Bijzonder snel was de Braziliaan echter niet; hij zette de zesde tijd neer.

Het Formule 1-circus gaat zich nu opmaken voor de Grand Prix van Hongarije. De eerste vrije trainingen worden over exact een week verreden.
