Alonso: "Ferrari nooit een optie voor volgend seizoen"

Rernault-coureur Fernando Alonso weet nog niet voor welk team hij volgend jaar rijdt, maar de Spanjaard weet wel dat hij in 2009 in ieder geval niet in dienst van Ferrari racet. De Italiaanse renstal heeft al twee coureurs voor volgend seizoen. Alonso zegt in AS: Het is al tijden bekend dat ze twee rijders onder contract hebben voor volgend jaar. Ferrari is dus nooit een optie voor mij geweest.

De Spanjaard wil wel graag terugkeren aan het front en meestrijden om de zeges, maar dat hoeft niet persé met Ferrari te zijn. Ik ben pas 27 en heb genoeg tijd om in een winnende auto te komen. Dat kan Ferrari zijn, maar er zijn genoeg andere goede renstallen. Ik won in 2005 en 2006 de wereldtitel met Renault en toen bleven we Ferrari voor. Ik ga de uitdaging in elk geval niet uit de weg.

Het gesprek dat hij vorige week bij de test op Monza met Ferrari-president Luca di Montezemolo had stelde dan ook weinig voor. Nogmaals Alonso: Ik zag hem maar vijf seconden. Hij vroeg hoe het met me ging en liep daarna verder. Daarna omhelsde hij Giancarlo Fisichella en sprak hij ook met Lewis Hamilton.
