Toyota's krijgen het niet voor elkaar in koud België

Jarno Trulli kwam eens niet in de top tien kwalificatie terecht. De Italiaanse Toyota-coureur wist zich regelmatig uitstekende kwalificatieposities te verschaffen door vrijwel altijd in de top tien-kwalificatie terecht te komen. Dit keer kwam het mede door de koele omstandigheden dat Toyota er niet snel genoeg was volgens de Italiaan.

Trulli na zijn enigszins teleurstellende kwalificatie: "Op voorhand wisten we eigenlijk al dat dit ging gebeuren. Het was een lastige kwalificatie voor ons door de koude omstandigheden hier in België", aldus de coureur die morgen als elfde zal starten. Belangrijkste oorzaak voor deze startpositie zoekt Trulli in het weer: "Het was erg lastig om de temperatuur in de banden te krijgen, het is hier koud en zo ook het asfalt. Het is lastig om dan tot een goede balans in de wagen te komen."

"Morgen is er weer een dag en daarom moeten we dan verder kijken. Ik zal mijn best doen. Het enige positieve punt aan vandaag is dat ikzelf mijn strategie kan bepalen", aldus Jarno Trulli.

Teamgenoot Timo Glock is met een dertiende startpositie ook niet tevreden: "Het was een lastige sessie voor me. We krijgen de prestaties niet in de banden. De banden worden door het koude weer hier gewoon niet goed genoeg voor ons. De auto voelt zo niet lekker op het circuit, en dat is hier niet fijn", aldus de Duitser die ook het Belgische klimaat de schuld geeft aan de enigszins teleurstellende prestatie.

Toyota is met Renault in strijd om de vierde plaats in het constructeurkampioenschap. Toyota leidt hierin de stand met tien punten, maar Alonso start morgen als vijfde. Zijn teamgenoot Piquet Jr. staat juist exact tussenin de beide Toyota's op plaats twaalf.
