Toyota voelt punten van Alonso in strijd om plaats vier

Toyota-coureur Timo Glock was de coureur die het allerlaatste punt uit de Belgische Ardennen wist te slepen. De Duitser bracht zijn Toyota na zware gevechten met onder andere Webber naar een achtste positie. Na gisteren niet tevreden te zijn geweest over de kwalificatie was hij vandaag redelijk tevreden over de uitkomst van de race.

Glock: "Het was een behoorlijk lastige race. Uiteindelijk ben ik wel erg blij met het resultaat. Ik moet hiervoor ook natuurlijk het team bedanken. Zij hebben het de laatste races erg goed gedaan, vooral degenen die aan de starts werken. Fantastisch gewoon."

"In de eerste bocht zag ik mijn teamgenoot Jarno Trulli tegen Bourdais aan gaan en ook ik was lekker naar voren geschoten. Gedurende de eerste ronden van de race kreeg ik amper de temperatuur in mijn banden. Ik worstelde daardoor met de auto en veel coureurs passeerden me."

De keuze om naar regenbanden te wisselen was volgens hem perfect: "Toen de regen begon te vallen maakte ik de beslissing om naar binnen te komen en naar de regenband te wisselen. Het was absoluut de beste keuze deze race op dat moment. In de allerlaatste bocht haalde ik zelfs nog Mark Webber in en dat bracht mij het WK-punt."

In de strijd om de vierde plaats in het constructeurkampioenschap deelde Alonso een tik uit aan Toyota. De Spanjaard pakte vijf punten en Toyota slechts één. De voorsprong voor Toyota bedraagt nog maar zes punten. Glock scoorde dit seizoen in totaal zestien punten. Teamgenoot Jarno Trulli, die zondag als allerlaatste finishte, behaalde er zesentwintig.
