Briatore verwacht nog twee podiumplekken van Renault

Renault-teambaas Flavio Briatore verwacht dit jaar nog minstens twee keer een coureur van zijn team op het podium te zien. Met vijf races te gaan in 2008 staat de Franse renstal op één podiumplek, de tweede plaats van Nelson Piquet jr in Duitsland. Tweevoudig wereldkampioen Fernando Alonso finishte dit jaar nog niet in de top drie.

Briatore: Het is duidelijk merkbaar dat onze auto alsmaar beter wordt, dat was ook zondag in België te zien. We worden steeds competitiever. Ik verwacht dat wij dit seizoen minstens nog twee keer op het podium belanden. Dat zit er gewoon in. In Monaco en Canada kregen we al mogelijkheden, maar toen is het ons niet gelukt.

Wij concentreren ons nog vol op de huidige jaargang. Wij willen koste wat het kost vierde in het constructeurkampioenschap worden. Het is onze taak om de coureurs een competitieve auto te geven. Daar begint het allemaal bij. Pas als je een goede auto hebt, kunnen de rijders het verschil maken in de races.
