Briatore doet volgend jaar stapje terug bij Renault

Na dit seizoen zal teambaas Flavio Briatore een stap terugdoen bij het team van Renault. Iemand anders zal de dagelijkse leiding van de Italiaan overnemen. Briatore zal vandaag een bespreking houden met Renault-president Carlos Ghosn over de plannen voor 2009.

Mijn rol volgend jaar zal niet zo groot zijn als nu, aldus Briatore tegenover de Italiaanse sportkrant Gazzetta dello Sport. Ik heb al een nieuwe man voor deze taak op het oog. Daardoor hoef ik me niet overal meer mee te bemoeien en kan ik me toeleggen op alleen de allerbelangrijkste zaken binnen het team.

Briatore is optimistisch over de ontwikkeling bij het Franse team. Je ziet de cycli in Formule 1. Soms gaat het goed, soms gaat het minder, ook financieel. We kunnen gelukkig met een gelijkwaardig budget verder. Echter, het is maar goed dat het in deze sport niet alleen maar om het geld draait, want in dat geval zou Toyota alles winnen. Bovendien hebben we nu nieuwe, jonge mensen aan boord die erg goed zijn in hun werk.

Door de overwinning in Singapore hoopt het team Fernando Alonso te kunnen behouden als coureur voor volgend jaar. Toch tempert Briatore de verwachtingen. Deze overwinning heeft niets veranderd aan de situatie. Ik weet dat hij zich nog niet heeft aangeboden bij andere teams. We hopen hem in elk geval een sterke Renault te kunnen bieden voor volgend jaar.

Over de positie van Nelsinho Piquet lijkt de teambaas een stuk minder positief. Over het algemeen wordt aangenomen dat Lucas di Grassi de belangrijkste kandidaat is om het tweede racezitje voor komend seizoen over te nemen. Piquet heeft inderdaad nog geen goed jaar achter de rug. Hij doet het redelijk goed voordat de kwalificatie begint, maar daarna doet hij niet wat van hem wordt verwacht. We zullen zien, zegt Briatore.

In hoeverre zal dit stapje terug invloed hebben op de beslissing van Alonso wel/niet bij Renault te blijven?

Ik denk niks, Alonso heeft een even groot ego als flavio onderhand (niet negatief bedoeld) En het loon van Renault is niet mis voor Alonso. Hij zal nooit naar BMW gaan al smeken ze \'m. OM TE WINNEN MOET JE IN EEN RODE OF ZILVEREN AUTO ZITTEN.
