McLaren-sponsor Banco Santander stapt over naar Ferrari

Het gerucht ging al langer en nu heeft Banco Santander het dan eindelijk bevestigd: de sponsor verruilt aan het einde van 2009 het team van McLaren voor concurrent Ferrari. Dat onthulde Emilio Botin, baas van de Spaanse bank, in de Spaanse krant AS. Vanaf 2010 hoort Banco Santander bij Ferrari, aldus Botin.

Daarnaast verklapte hij graag Fernando Alonso terug te zien in een auto waar Banco Santander op staat. Botin: Alonso is de beste coureur van de wereld en wij willen graag weer met hem samenwerken, maar daar hebben wij geen zeggenschap over. Alonso en Banco Santander werkten in 2007 samen bij McLaren. Voor een hereniging moeten ze waarschijnlijk wachten tot 2011, aangezien Ferrari met Kimi Raikkonen en Felipe Massa al twee rijders tot eind 2010 onder contract heeft.
